New Video – Beginner Strength Workout

New Video – Beginner Strength Workout

Here is a complete circuit, appropriate for the beginner or even intermediate for a quick butt-kicking. You will hit every part of the body, and keep the heart rate up! Tighten, tone, strengthen, and blast fat. Safe for post-pregnancy, too (once your doctor gives you the go ahead, of course). So follow along. I had a tricky time with music (apparently we are not allowed to play music in our videos anymore) so if it disappears, I’ll replace it with some other tunes. Work hard!

Ryan: All Is Not Lost

Ryan: All Is Not Lost

Jessica was gone!!!!!!!!! I was lost – but I managed to stick to a tough schedule. Week 1 sans Jessica was not my best effort – a mix of business events (including an overly indulgent, weekend-long Montreal business trip) had me feeling like I was bloated and gross. So when Monday rolled around (last Monday) I knew I had to step it up and hammer out a solid week on both the diet and workout front. From Monday to today I ran 44Km, did 1.5 hours of hot yoga, and did 3 solid strength training sessions. I ate well, trying to focus most on a balance of greens and proteins while minimizing fast food. I found a nice little spot that I hit for 3 of the 5 lunches. I struggle...

Ryan: My Stomach Hates Fast Food Now

Ryan: My Stomach Hates Fast Food Now

Hey ya’ll, Relatively uneventful week/weekend. (Jessica says: Ryan, with you, uneventful tends to be a good thing.) I did however fall victim to a new burger joint opening up near my office. This burger joint has incredible choices, few of them are healthy. I stuffed myself with a burger covered in ranch sauce (ranch sauce, Ryan?!), cheese, onion rings etc. for lunch, and felt sick until I went to bed (like 12 hours later). It is nice to see that my body isn’t as used to handling that garbage as it once was. Back when I was 230lbs I wouldn’t have had any trouble with a meal like that. Work out wise I kept it simple this week: strength work outs, running, and yoga!...

Saghi: I Used to Say No To Tight Dresses…

Saghi: I Used to Say No To Tight Dresses…

For the past 2 years, I have dreaded getting dressed for parties or events. I always found myself buying something new because whatever I had in the closet didn’t fit me the way it did when I first bought it. I refused to buy fitted dresses because of the way my midsection and sides would look in them. This year things were different. My mom had purchased this dress for me and told me to try it on; it was one of those fitted dresses I never thought would look good on me. I put it on and immediately felt great in it! I went to a family Christmas party and everyone had recognized the difference in my shape, it’s so motivating when others see the difference! Over...

Top 10 Myths in Health and Fitness

Top 10 Myths in Health and Fitness

1. Carbs are bad. Don’t you dare. The body needs carbs. Be careful about eating too many empty and starchy carbohydrates like wheat (bread, cereals, cookies, pizza) and opt instead for more complex ones (brown rice, legumes like beans and chick peas, oatmeal). Fruits and vegetables are carbohydrates too and very good for us – but stick to 2-3 fruits/day to ward off sugar cravings. 2. Cardio is best for fat loss. Nope. Cardio is great for the heart. Fat loss comes from a well-conditioned metabolism – so building lean muscle tissue and eating frequent, clean and balanced meals are king. Do your strength building in a cardio-blasting circuit and...
