Saghi: Wedding Shower + Time Out

Saghi: Wedding Shower + Time Out

This past week has been awesome! I had my bridal shower last Sunday. I was certainly showered with gifts and lots of love, but I was also showered with a lot of positive comments about my weight and figure. Some said they couldn’t believe how much I’ve changed and how great I look. Hard work is paying off! I work at Sick Kids and for the month of May our hospital is participating in an Inter-Hospital Health Challenge. Did I sign up? You bet I did! Along with my other Child Life Specialist colleagues, we have created two teams and are determined to win! Every day we log in and track the amount of minutes we’ve been active, the number of veggies and fruits we’ve...

Saghi: Focus on Form

Saghi: Focus on Form

“Core, core, core, think core, Saghi!” I must have heard this every single session I have had with Jess this past week. We’re working on my balance and building a stronger core. You must be wondering how we’re doing this – how does doing a plank on a bosu and stability ball sound? It sounded absurd to me, and thought Jess had lost her mind in wanting me to do this. The first time was difficult, I felt discouraged as I wobbled continuously. But it got a little better each time after that. Jess always says that it gets easier after the first set, and she’s right. It really does. She kicked my ass on Wednesday night. Resting in between...

New Video – Beginner Strength Workout

New Video – Beginner Strength Workout

Here is a complete circuit, appropriate for the beginner or even intermediate for a quick butt-kicking. You will hit every part of the body, and keep the heart rate up! Tighten, tone, strengthen, and blast fat. Safe for post-pregnancy, too (once your doctor gives you the go ahead, of course). So follow along. I had a tricky time with music (apparently we are not allowed to play music in our videos anymore) so if it disappears, I’ll replace it with some other tunes. Work hard!

Excuses, Excuses

Excuses, Excuses

As you can imagine, I’ve heard more excuses in this line of work than I’ve heard regular chatty sentences. When you recruit someone to help you get to your goals (who will surpass you in their intentions for your work), you feel inclined to fight them. You feel inclined to wrestle for your own comfort, to defend your indulgences, and sometimes even walk out (yeah, I’ve had a client walk out once or twice!). So, I’ve decided to write a sweet and short post featuring some of the ones I’ve heard lately, and I will share my responses to them. My answers always share the same purpose – to keep us focused on what you are REALLY doing here,...

Ryan: All Is Not Lost

Ryan: All Is Not Lost

Jessica was gone!!!!!!!!! I was lost – but I managed to stick to a tough schedule. Week 1 sans Jessica was not my best effort – a mix of business events (including an overly indulgent, weekend-long Montreal business trip) had me feeling like I was bloated and gross. So when Monday rolled around (last Monday) I knew I had to step it up and hammer out a solid week on both the diet and workout front. From Monday to today I ran 44Km, did 1.5 hours of hot yoga, and did 3 solid strength training sessions. I ate well, trying to focus most on a balance of greens and proteins while minimizing fast food. I found a nice little spot that I hit for 3 of the 5 lunches. I struggle...
