Jess’ Favourite Things, Dec 9: Fitness Equipment Store

Jess’ Favourite Things, Dec 9: Fitness Equipment Store

When I am referring clients to a store to pick up their new equipment (dumbbells, balls, Bosus, jump rope, treadmills etc) there is only one place I tell them to go: Foremost Fitness on Eglinton. In the world of fitness gadgets, it can be hard to know what is going to be an appropriate investment for you. We all know people who’ve thrown money at a product and the it sits in the basement collecting dust! The store is not a massive warehouse overwhelming with a ton of product – it is streamlined, clean and spacious with the most perfect display of merchandise. The staff is always incredibly friendly and helpful, and most of all, their pricing is reasonable....

Jess’ Favourite Things Dec 3: My Favourite Yoga DVD

Jess’ Favourite Things Dec 3: My Favourite Yoga DVD

Because of my workouts needing to be snuck in around my clients’ appointments, I can rarely make an appointment myself.  So, yoga classes, although they happen once in a blue moon, are primarily out of the question. I LOVE power yoga, so what is the ultimate solution? Rodney Yee’s Power Yoga: Total Body DVD. I’ve had this DVD for years.  Even if I just have 20-30 minutes at the end of an exhausting day, its repetitive vinyasa and hip stretches are exactly what I need to wind down, and to get into bed feeling refreshed and taken care of. I’ve recommended this DVD to many of my clients who have all enjoyed it as much as I have. You can buy it at...

Saghi’s Before and After So Far

Saghi’s Before and After So Far

Saghi has been writing about her experiences over the past little while, and has been training with me for over a year. She has candidly expressed her difficulty with her emotional attachment to food, her (sometimes extreme) highs and lows of motivation, and her occasional indulgence in her beloved “Sweet Chili Heats” Doritos (something I may not ever, in my lifetime, understand – haha!). Saghi has come a long way aesthetically, but the real changes are in her self-compassion demonstrated through her health practices. Saghi has completely changed the way she eats, and how she thinks about food.  She is enthusiastic about the balanced nutrition she puts...

Saghi: Off-track, and Pushed Right Back On!

Saghi: Off-track, and Pushed Right Back On!

For the past two weeks I did not stick to my 6 days a week workout schedule. I started feeling exhausted and weak. I needed to rest and take it easy. Like Jess’ recent blog: you have to listen to your body. Normally I’d have some food before a strength workout with Jess, for some reason on Monday all I had was a rice cake with almond butter, a few hours earlier. BIG mistake! By the time we got through the first set I was feeling dizzy and really low on energy. As Jess would describe it: I was hitting a wall. We were unable to complete the third set of the last strength exercise and ended about 15 minutes early. I needed food ASAP. During my session on...

“Listen to Your Body”

“Listen to Your Body”

This is a phrase I’m repeating to my clients constantly. So I want to elaborate on it, so that everyone really understands what this means. Whether you know it or not, there is a constant communication between your wellness and your brain. Your body is always telling you what it needs – either by hunger pangs, headaches, bounding energy, complete exhaustion, hive breakouts, or maybe even just some change in its typical routine that throws you off a little bit. Maybe your head is feeling foggier than usual, or your skin is drier than usual. It’s important to check in with yourself regularly and ask yourself how your wellness, as a complete package,...
