“Core, core, core, think core, Saghi!” I must have heard this every single session I have had with Jess this past week. We’re working on my balance and building a stronger core. You must be wondering how we’re doing this – how does doing a plank on a bosu and stability ball sound? It sounded absurd to me, and thought Jess had lost her mind in wanting me to do this. The first time was difficult, I felt discouraged as I wobbled continuously. But it got a little better each time after that. Jess always says that it gets easier after the first set, and she’s right. It really does. She kicked my ass on Wednesday night. Resting in between...
Read MoreEasy, this is not. But, I have managed to get rid of ALMOST all of my heavily toxic products in favour of more natural and earth-friendly ones. I am not by any means perfect at this point, and I highly doubt that I will ever be. But what I have changed so far will make a great big difference in my insides and as well in what I’m rinsing down the drain. I had to add some Aveda shampoo and conditioner to the hair department. Their “Scalp Benefits” seems to be the cleanest type. Hugo Naturals shampoo and conditioner is lovely, smells great, but frankly the Aveda leaves it a bit softer and less dreadlock-like. I DO blame myself for this –...
Read MoreI wrapped up last week’s diary entry mentioning my transition into using natural beauty products, and the natural facial I was planning to get at Pure + Simple. All I can say about the facial is: Ah-mazing! I chose the super hydrating facial that replenishes and restores the skin’s water content, while unclogging pores. It was a one hour treatment that left my face feeling clean and super moisturized! I may have been their ideal customer that day, as I purchased a facial cleanser, exfoliator, serum, cream and lip balm. I’m obsessed with putting vaseline on my lips before bed but I have recently learned that vaseline does not get absorbed into the lips...
Read MoreLife gets busy, we scramble, and we end up saying “oh screw it, I’ll just buy lunch today” when we’ve failed to prepare. If you need a little reminder of how much smarter it is to invest 5 minutes every evening or morning to pack yourself a lunch, here it is: 1) It’s much easier to eat a nutritious, filling and clean meal. Most restaurant / takeout options have tons of hidden fat, salt and calories that are energy zappers and waistline expanders. Even salads are often served with multiple portions of fat (be them healthful or not – they would be more than we would add at home as consumers like to “get their money’s...
Read MoreI want to start off by telling you about my favourite breakfast smoothie! I made it this morning and finished every drop of it! I blended a small banana, 3 strawberries, a handful of spinach, 1/2 cup of almond milk and 1 tbsp of hemp seeds. I had it with a rice cake and natural peanut butter. Jess says to have produce at every meal, so I’ve been playing around with my greens and fruits for breakfast, trying to find something that is quick, clean and filling. Smoothies are working for me! One of the things I appreciate about Jess is her honesty and no-bullshit attitude. I was honest with her in letting her know I indulged in a Tim Horton’s whole grain blueberry...
