Courtney’s Lentil Tacos

Courtney’s Lentil Tacos

When I picked Courtney up at her condo to carry on to the gym before our session last week, I demanded to know what that AMAZING smell was coming from her kitchen! Courtney had made lentil tacos that smelled incredible. So, upon request, she has shared her recipe with me, and now with all of you! Ingredients: 2 cups cooked lentils 2 tbsp pure tomato sauce 1 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce 1 tbsp chilli powder 2 tsp lemon or lime (juice) 1 1/2 tsp ground cumin 1/2 tsp paprika 1/4 tsp garlic powder (granulated) 1/4 tsp onion powder (granulated) 1/4 tsp dried organo or marjoram 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper nondairy milk (optional) salsa Pulse the lentils in a food processor, add the...

“Listen to Your Body”

“Listen to Your Body”

This is a phrase I’m repeating to my clients constantly. So I want to elaborate on it, so that everyone really understands what this means. Whether you know it or not, there is a constant communication between your wellness and your brain. Your body is always telling you what it needs – either by hunger pangs, headaches, bounding energy, complete exhaustion, hive breakouts, or maybe even just some change in its typical routine that throws you off a little bit. Maybe your head is feeling foggier than usual, or your skin is drier than usual. It’s important to check in with yourself regularly and ask yourself how your wellness, as a complete package,...

Saghi: Preparing for the Last Dress Fitting

Saghi: Preparing for the Last Dress Fitting

Less than 2 months until our wedding! I had gone for a dress fitting 2 months ago when the lady told me that the next time I went in would be the last time before she takes it in. She said I could not lose any more weight after that fitting, since she can only take the dress in once. This fitting was scheduled for next week, however I knew I’d end up losing more so I changed it for the end of May. The challenge after that fitting will be to maintain my weight and not lose more than 5 lbs. The last thing I want is my dress feeling loose on me. So Jess has helped me to come up with a workout and diet plan to help maintain my weight. I’m confident that it will...

Saghi: Wedding Shower + Time Out

Saghi: Wedding Shower + Time Out

This past week has been awesome! I had my bridal shower last Sunday. I was certainly showered with gifts and lots of love, but I was also showered with a lot of positive comments about my weight and figure. Some said they couldn’t believe how much I’ve changed and how great I look. Hard work is paying off! I work at Sick Kids and for the month of May our hospital is participating in an Inter-Hospital Health Challenge. Did I sign up? You bet I did! Along with my other Child Life Specialist colleagues, we have created two teams and are determined to win! Every day we log in and track the amount of minutes we’ve been active, the number of veggies and fruits we’ve...

Saghi: Hungry For Change

Saghi: Hungry For Change

What a week! I wasn’t feeling well for a few days, so I missed my cardio and strength training sessions last week. So what do I do while resting on the couch? Watch a documentary on healthy eating of course. If I can’t work out I might as well learn more about nutrition. I had heard about this documentary called Hungry for Change. I decided to watch it. All I can say about it is that it was a MAJOR eye opener! Most of you know I have a weak spot for baked goods and other sweets… let’s just say I think twice now when I walk by a Tim Hortons or Starbucks when I get my cravings. I strongly recommend this documentary to anyone who wants to learn more...
